For Ryan's big 4-0, we didn't have a party, but we did board a plane and flew down to Naples, Florida, for some R&R. I have to tell you that this was our first vacation where we read a book (if not more than one book), and enjoyed our time. I think it's due to the fact that the boys are older and can entertain each other and it's simply easier.
We landed in south Florida and went straight to the hotel to unpack and hit the pool. It's exactly what we did. Eban isn't the strongest swimmer so he had floaties some of the time (much to Ryan's chagrin as he was swimming when he was two - - so he proclaims). We also walked around the property for a bit to get ready for the birthday dinner!
We also walked to a restaurant on the pier in the harbor and had some of the best seafood and decided we needed to go back. The restaurant also had cool tables where you could see seashells under the tabletop glass. It was rustic and quaint - - awesome! Ryan's birthday cake was homemade keylime pie. He was happy. The following day we hit the beach and stayed there all morning!! Sat on our chairs and swam and snacked. That's it. There were claims of manatees swimming along the shoreline near the pier which is where we parked our umbrellas each day so we did keep our eyes on alert for wildlife.
We also met new friends (a five year old and her mom) - - from Colorado. She invited us to come to her house to play the next day since we were going to the beach and her grandpa had a place on the beach. I said yes...because, why not!?
