We are walking...we are walking!

Eban took his first couple of steps last Thursday and then this whole weekend, he's been more brave and taken at least 6 steps in a row! We haven't been able to get this on video or even with my camera as whenever I take out the camera, Eban sees it, and then wants it...he's a tad stubborn that way. I have no idea who he gets that from...is it mommy or daddy?

Anyway, the dogs are sick and tired of eating Cheerios. They've been eating up the Cheerios that he feeds them every morning. They now even eat fruit which is a first. When Eban gets done eating, he does the "windshield" wipers game with his arms on his high chair table and the food goes flying. The dogs vie for who gets the goods that have fallen to the floor.

This weekend, I'm off to Philadelphia. I will be appointed to the board of directors for America's Service Commission. After that, I fly to Providence for a week for training. So Grandma Patti is coming in to help look after Eban for the week. The PR folks are very happy that I'm pregnant again, as they have a designated driver each night. I enthusiastically said I would schlep them anywhere they wanted, but they have no clue how lame I am. I go to bed around 9:00pm or 10:00pm every night so they are now tied into my lovely "party" schedule...unless of course, they want to cab it!

Don't squash your kid's imagination

The title of this entry is "don't squash your kid's imagination" as that's something I feel is very important.

Last weekend, I was carrying Eban and I saw him pick something off my shoulder and start chewing it. I crazily looked at him to see if he'd spit it out as it could have been a bug, button, or who knows what! I then frantically started saying no while shoving my finger in his mouth to sweep it. I couldn't find anything. I'm staring at him to see if he's going to start choking and then he giggled at me...of all things. He then reached up to my shoulder and grabbed "something" and pretended to pop it in his mouth and then he "chewed" it. I was not prepared at all for the new stage of "pretending." So at the first opportunity I got, I squashed his enthusiasm for pretend play. I'm a terrible mom!

Anyway, last Friday was his first birthday and we didn't really celebrate as we don't have a yard to entertain people, etc. We are still in the process of unpacking so we'll have a shindig on his one year and one month birthday! We did, however, get him a cake. (Note to those who are new parents: If you go to King Soopers and ask for a cake for a baby who's turning one, they throw in a free cake called the Dig In and Destroy Cake so you can get good pics of your kid going nuts with the frosting, etc.)

Well, Eban was very nervous at the sight of his first cake. He didn't know quite what to do. He timidly put one finger in the side of it to touch it and then he licked his finger. He proceeded to eat the rest of the cake like that. I think we had to shove his hand in the cake so he realized it was okay to go nuts, but he didn't really like that. I'm sure this characteristic will change as he gets older and he'll have no problem getting dirty. But if it doesn't, then we'll have a clean baby all the time!

I haven't had time to download all the pics from our move and his first cake, but I did download three of Eban...see below.
