Yes...it's been forever since I provided gritty content.
The boys are thriving.
Eban is going through a rebellious phase right now and sees the Time Out chair approximately every day. He's hitting and throwing objects at Jack or Seamus...or trying to take a bite out of my shoulder...so we try to remain as calm as can be and simply tell him that it hurts us when he does this. All the books say that if we get upset, it multiplies the reaction in him.
Jack is a fast little crawler. He is also standing up on everything to see what's up on tables or to simply grab at things. He also loses his balance so he takes good diggers into the ground. The kid is resilient but I still feel bad when I can't catch him.
His crooked grin is just precious...I laugh every time I see his toothy grin. It's becoming a more present visual other than his continual perplexed state.
Nani left us. It was horrible. We were all messes. The kids weren't but I don't think they had a clue as to what was happening. On the Saturday before she left, we had a party of roughly 20 Paraguayans. I attempted miserably to understand all the fast Spanish that was flying around the house in an excited manner...oh well. I knew everyone was having fun and eating a lot. Then Jennifer, who is an au pair in Loveland, put on her traditional Paraguayan dance outfit and did a dance representing the women who brought the water to the soldiers during their war. All the kids were so respectful when she did her dance. I didn't get video of it but I did take some pictures. It was beautiful to see her do it amongst all the baby toys and animals.
Ryan made one of the best dinners ever that night. It was a red sauce with tons of meat...sausage, pork, meatballs. It was so savory I can't explain it. All I had to do was make the ice cream dessert that Nani requested to have before she left. Anyway, OF COURSE, I failed to make the ice cream dessert properly so it was runny (the ice cream and chocolate sauce part). UGH...how frustrating. The good thing about that is on Monday night, all of her friends came over again and the ice cream dessert was finally frozen and they all ate it like crazed monsters who never had a sweet ice cream dessert before...it was pretty funny to see them scarf it down. I finally felt proud, like Ryan does all the time, of one of my culinary creations.
The good news is that Nani and the family have already communicated via web camera and we talk almost every day via email. So it's great to stay on the same page with her. I think she'll be coming back in the beginning of October to stay with a family with 4 children in San Diego. The kids are older but she promised us she'll come see us during one of her vacation periods.Last weekend, our friend Morgan turned one so we went to her little get together to celebrate. All the kids are growing like weeds so it's funny to see them after only three weeks.
They change so much at this young age. It's incredible. You can see the pictures of Morgan, Emerson, Hayden, and the boys from this toddler frenzy.
In the below video, Eban is eating his first ear of fresh, Colorado corn. After the Broncos game that I referenced earlier, Jodi and Vince gave us some of the fresh produce from their garden. We received baby peaches, pears, chilies, purple peppers, green peppers, corn, cherry tomatoes, and the juiciest yellow and red tomatoes! We couldn't have been happier with this amazing haul...and obviously, Eban stole my piece of corn that I was so happily chewing on...
Ryan and I also had the opportunity to go to the Broncos first home game last Sunday with our friends Jodi and Vince...to say we had fun is an understatement. We sat in the south stands about 11 rows up and had awesome seats. I ate all the garbage that the stadium would sell and while I was hiding in the hallway eating nachos, I actually got flirted with by a handful of Marines. As I shoved another cheesy nacho into my mouth, I looked behind me to see who they were talking to and it was actually me. Ryan walked by with Vince - they say they knew I was eating - and he laughingly told the boys to "watch it...that I was cut throat." I gobbled up that last nacho and loved my husband even more for dealing with that situation in that manner.
OOOOhhh, here's some other funny Eban stories. He likes to yell at me lately in a cute manner. He's telling me "HURRY UP MAMA!" And whenever I put Jack to sleep at 8pm, I hear a little voice yell from downstairs, "Where are you MAMA!?!" He's pretty funny while being ornery at the same time. It's hard to explain. He's also getting to be a little snuggle monster with me at night. I just love it! In the middle of the night, he sometimes has nightmares so he'll come sleep in between us and we end up having a tiny elbow to the head or a giggling poke to the eyes. He likes to sleep perpendicular when he does this so it varies as to who receives the feet in the head or the snoring toddler breathing crazily into one's face. In this video, it just shows them eating breakfast in the morning. They are in the same booster chair so it makes it easier for me to feed them at the same time. SUCH a relief! And you can see Eban steal Cheerios from Jack and hear Eban impersonate Seamus. It's funny that he doesn't woof when I ask what Seamus says...
