Nani arrived safely on Friday all the way from Paraguay and she looked fabulous after traveling for over 28 hours or so. I should have taken her home so she could nap, but instead we went to the University to have some snacks for Courage to Care Day, our annual day of volunteerism in the metro Denver area. She had a couple of bites of pizza and a couple bites of a cookie while I pounded down lemonade and a huge cheesesteak.
We got Eban and he was shy at first with her. That lasted about an hour and now he's all over her. Poor thing will never get a rest...plus, she's so tiny and Eban is half her size already!! He always wants to get picked up and she's so nice and obliges him every time. I told her we'd fatten her up and she laughs at that!
Nani saw her first school bus, had her first taco (she really had three tacos) and thinks Denver is very clean.
This weekend, we went to meet Morgan, my friend Kayce's 5 day old little girl (see Kayce and Morgan in this pic). She was beautiful and so alert for being less than a week old. When our friend Tawnya came in the house, we introduced Nani to her and Tawnya glared at me and said, "She has a name!?" And I told her that Nani's name was NANI. So Ryan and I had to explain the fact that the word "Nanny" in English is similar to that of the word Au Pair. She had a good sense of humor about that...thank goodness!
Well, Jackson is still due on October 2nd. I had a doctor's appointment yesterday and I'm only one centimeter dilated...DARN it! Romy, my doctor, said I could induce next Tuesday if I was miserable but she doesn't recommend that to anyone. I'll wait to at least the first of October, but then I may consider inducing...I just feel so heavy and lethargic. I am certainly not getting enough sleep at night as I'm uncomfortable and having tons of nightmares.
This weekend, we are going to have dinner and Jen and Chris's new lake house. Saturday, we are meeting other Boulder-area Au Pairs and their families for a pizza dinner and on Sunday, the Au Pairs are getting together to watch the Nanny Diaries in Denver. I have heard through the grapevine that in the movie the family that hires Scarlett Johannsen's character doesn't call her by her proper name, but instead calls her by "Nanny." I tried to explain that to Nani that it's ugly for Americans to do that, but I don't know if she understood. I hope she did.
That's it for now. I'm ready to have Jackson. As I was writing this, I had two short contractions...so I guess it could happen today???
